What is the difference between Azure VM and Azure App Service?

**Azure Virtual Machine (VM):**
- Full control over OS, software, configuration
- You manage OS updates, security patches
- Best for: legacy apps, custom environments, databases
- More expensive at low scale

**Azure App Service:**
- Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) — managed hosting
- Deploy code directly (Node.js, Python, .NET, PHP, Java)
- Auto-scaling, SSL, custom domains built-in
- No OS management
- Best for: web apps, REST APIs, mobile backends

**Use VM** when you need OS-level control.
